The Indian Oaks also called affectionately as "Ladies Derby" is one of biggest event in racing calender. A long card of eleven races scheduled for the day. There are a few very competitive races. Here are my pointers for the day:-
Race 1. Hi Dolly, Magical Mantra, Brilliant Moon Upset : Fluent Victory (E/W)
A class V mile race to start the day. The main competitors are Hi Dolly, Fluent Victory, and Magical Mantra . Hi Dolly ran well in upper class, has very weak set of horses here to beat, if tried will win. Fluent Victory last run was was amazing, has a problem coming out from gates, is always slow starter, the distance will suit it fine. The Jockey is making a comeback, will try to prove himself, that will augur well for the horse. Magical Mantra ran well last time, with Srinath to ride will give fight to all. Tomorrows Dreams can only hope to place because of its handicap. Brilliant Moon last run was not impressive, i don't see it winning here, can only place at most.
Race 2. Ocean Sensation, Insite Soul, Houdini Upset : Rising Asset
Another class V sprint race. An upset is expected here. The race should be between Houdini, Insite Soul and Ocean Sensation. Ocean sensation, had an easy run last time, is prepared well today, with R.Hughes to guide, will be the one to beat. Insite Soul is a gamble horse, looks set for a coup today, but has to beat former, will surely place. Houdini, at this handicap is a danger to all, can cast its magic will place. Rising Asset at this handicap, with this apprentice Jockey, can surely look to place at longer odds as the horse can drag him to the post.
Race 3. Illustrious(Win), Elizabeth Upset : Superior Quest
A very competitive race on the cards. Sea Treasure ran excellent last time out, prepared well, with R.Hughes to guide will try to win, but the weight will be a stopper.Elizabeth is running its pet distance has to beat Illustrious. Illustrious is a very speedy animal, will go start to finish, with C.Rajendra to ride should win with plenty to spare. Superior Quest is the only horse which can upset, is having a major positive change in Jockey.
Race 4. Floods Of Fortune , Confiserie Upset : Great White
A mile race with only 6 horses. The race is between Floods Of Fortune , Confiserie and Great White.
Confiserie would have won at equal weights, still will give a fight to all. Great white at this weight can upset, note.
Race 5. Star Alliance, Native Knight Upset : Mystic Quest
A class I mile race. A race with quite a few quality horses. Native Knight is a very talented animal, carrying 61 kg but will surely make everyone run. Misschevious Trot at this handicap is a danger to all at its current form. Star Alliance has been a late mature kind of a horse, now it close to its peak, will be the one to beat. Mystic Quest at this handicap can upset .
Race 6. Distinguished, Mystic Temple, Dancing Money. Upset : The Right Man.
A upset race. Dancing Money is a gamble horse, looks to be tried today will place, can win. Distinguished is a better horse than this class, can pull off a gamble, note. Mystic Temple lost last time, was unlucky, will fight to win again today.Star Miracle running after long time, is being touted as a definite winner, tracking extremely well, will R.Hughes to ride can win, but better to leave this horse today. The Right Man can sneek a place.
Race 7. Silver Soul(E/W), Sepia Tone, Alburz Upset : Creme De La Creme
A competitive race. Albuurz failed twice, was unlucky with draw, today has got a lovely draw, will be right there.Sepia Tone is a class above horse, running its pet distance, will try to run away.Silver Soul is also a class above horse, drawn nicely today, will run a good race, provided its blood vessel holds. Royal Gesture can hope to place as well. Creme De La Creme is another class above horse, with the handicap can upset all.
Race 8. Amadeus(win), Amaretto, Haunting Fantasy Upset : Araceli.
THE GOOL S. POONAWALLA MILLION - the3 year old race having 9 horses. A very competitive field.
Amadeus ran well last time, tracking extremely well, would have improved a lot, with B.Prakash to guide will be tough to toss.Amaretto ran well last time time, has come up after that run, will run well. Araceli won in Bangalore, is bred for speed running a sprint here, can surprise, but the Jockey is a concern. Class Apart looks a speedy horse , tracking well, with C.D. Hayes to guide will push all for sure. Haunting Fantasy lost earlier to Amaretto, but has improved a lot since then, won well last time, will be a different proposition today.
Race 9. Suryaveer(E/W), Sledgehammer, Hill Ranger Upset : Ashwa Prabir
A 3 year maidens race. The race looks likely to be between Ashwa Prabir, Hill Ranger,Sledgehammer, and Suryaveer.
Race 10. Siachen, Moonlight Romance Upset : Carousel
THE HDIL INDIAN OAKS- The main race of the day.
Six horses fight for the prize. It surprises me sometimes, that how many owners are frightened to race their horse in these big races, once they see some very good horse in the field.
Carousel : It is bred to stay, will relish the mile and 1/2 distance.Sparsely raced.Has got good Jockey, who will keep her in the race till the last furlong for sure. Will show its class today.
Frost Fairy : The participant from the gold and brown brigade, has tasted the distance earlier and came out well, does not look to be an outstanding animal, but will stay and can surprise, only if others fail which is unlikely.
Moonlight Romance : A one paced horse, will try to win from the world go, but since it is a 6 horse field, where navigation wont be much of a problem, will be tested to its limits. R.Hughes riding it will be a big positive.
Siachen : The prime contender. Will it stay the distance is the eternal question? It has got tremendous turn of feet, will win surely if it stays. I feel it will stay the trip.
Sun Elegance : The pace maker of the race, will help Siachen's cause more ironically.
Sunlight : The horse which will surely stay, and would be competitive as well. It is a good finisher. Watchout for it if the race pace is hot.
Race 11. Glorious Miss, Fascination, Perpetuation Upset : Adams Law(note)
Adams Law can upset at longer odds note.
