Well, giving it a shot at Hyderabad races today. The Hyderabad Derby, holds a great significance, as we have seen horses winning here has also stunned everyone in Indian Derby. Here are mu opinions for the day :-
Race 1. Cicilia, Amontillado, Carson Troy Upset: Aarohan
A category III sprint race to start the day. The race seems to be between Cicilia, Amontillado, Carson Troy, and Aarohan . Cicilia had the best run in this set against far better competitors, with PS Chouhan to ride, will be tough to toss. Amontillado though long in tooth will drive the former close. Aarohan can look to place. Carson Troy at this handicap can place as well. Paris Time can be considered for an upset if any.
Race 2. Traxana , Illustrator, Lambourn Upset : Sanjaa
A category III mile race with 16 horses. Traxana , Lambourn , Illustrator,Sanjaa, Kansas City Mac and Style Ikon.
Race 3. Splendid Show, Silver Liner, Princess Jaanu Upset : Aficionado
A category III sprint cup race. The main contenders are Silver Liner, Sun Bird , Rose Queen, Splendid Show, Princess Jaanu and Aficionado.
Race 4. Aegis, Premiership(E/W), Cherry Hill Upset : Ann Arbor
The 3 year old Million having 13 horses. Cherry Hill is bred well, have not performed till date, the BLK might help, also Suraj guiding it gives a good chance. Vijays Jet is another horse which is bred well, had an educative run last time, will improve on that, will run well here.Aegis is bred well, making its debut, was good in the Mock race, can run away from all here.Ann Arbor had 2 runs, looks a speedy type, is drawn nicely today, if goes for a start to finish, will place for sure, can upset. Precisely That had a nice mock race, drawn badly here can only hope to place. Premiership had a nice run 1st up, is bred well, might need more distance, tracking well, will be one of the main contenders.Vijaysjyothi though have failed till now, with this Jockey at this handicap has a good chance to place.
Race 5. Aloisia, Golden Queen, Vendetta, Upset : Carte Blanche(E/W)
The Secretariat Cup. A tough race and many horses have chance here to win. The draw and riding skill might finally give the win. The main contenders are Aloisia, Golden Queen and Vendetta. Carte Blanche is a horse prepared with this race in mind, looks set for a coup, don't ignore.
Race 6. Mountain Range, Naval Honour(E/W), Super Duper Upset : Transformation
THE H D I L JUVENILE MILLION for the 3 year old having 14 horses competing here for the 7f race. The race seems to have an open look about it.Super Duper won a race of 5.5 f in its fast run showing good speed, it is bred by Keltos whose pro genies will enjoy the 7f more, is tracking well will be the one to beat here. Naval Honour is by Philanthropist which will produce horses performing best at 8f-10f races, is tracking well, can fight for honours.Proof won well 1st time up, is tracking well as well, drawn badly though. Mountain Range is coming from Bangalore, is tracking very good, is at a nice handicap drawn nicely, will make everyone run. Star Striker at this handicap can place. Transformation at this handicap will be a danger to all, don't ignore.
Race 7.Vijaysarathi, Menlo Park, Dhrutiman Upset : Disco Flash.
A category II sprint race is an 18 horse field. An upset is likely.
Race 8. Vijay Monarch, Balmoral Castle, Camacho.Upset : Crown Empress(E/W).

Ordained One : It is a talented animal, is classy enough to win today. Has got a proper Jockey after longtime, likes to hit front, drawn badly though. will place, could win if luck of race favours it.
The Leader : It will stay the distance comfortablely and be very competitive as well.
Vijay Monarch : It has got good turn of feet, if ridden in check can win.
Balmoral Castle : Not classy enough, can only surprise if others tire out.
Crown Empress : Not sure whether it will stay the distance, if it stays can upset note.
Emerald : Not here.
Vijay Damini : Can win, but not sure if it will stay in a good pace race.

A 9f race, in class IV. Powergrid at this handicap can trouble all.Seven Star and Showers Of Luck are the other contenders.
Race 5. Captivating Upset : Rare And Precious
THE D. P.SHARMA MEMORIAL SPRINTERS TRIAL STAKES has only 5 horses. Diamond Hunter is a 8 year old now, running after long time, though tracking well will still find it very tough to be in the frame. Rare And Precious has come back to form, not sure how the jockey will fare, would have been very effective with its swooping style of running, needs a very competent jockey. Captivating last run was might impressive, if shows similar consistency will be very tough to beat. Bhagirathi is tracking extremely well, will make the race place very hot, with Suraj to guide can upset. Sirono won well last time, has a big task on hand today.

A typical class V race to start off. Heros Dominance is looking fit, can run well. Ziggy Stardust won well last time, is looking good on tracks will run well again. Azazel unlucky twice, can win at this handicap. Non Stop Cannon if takes proper jump can frighten all. Beautiful Delight is at the right handicap can run away with the race.
Race 2. Stellar Star , Fast Colours, Berkley Square Upset : Saddler
Another class V race where an upset is very likely. Stellar Star has got nothing to beat here if not pulled, will win. Fast Colours at this handicap has a nice chance to upset, or at least place. Berkley Square can place.
Race 3. Alejandros, King Of Habashe, Mexikan Wave Upset : Looking To Luck

Shoot Out ran well last time, tracking extremely well, will surely run well. Simply Best is tracking well, out of midtown, watch out for it.
Race 2. Mr Ambassador(E/W), Super Spectacle, Savvy Concept Upset : Kripa.
The race should be between Super Spectacle, Savvy Concept, Kripa, and Mr Ambassador.
Mr Ambassador carrying lot of weight, but is above class horse, will fight for sure. Savvy Concept is a far better horse than what it has performed till date, can win today. Super Spectacle has a nice handicap today, with Suraj to guide will be there. For any upset don't look beyond Kripa.

THE VIF BANGALORE DERBY (GR.1): A 15 horse race, good to see so many horses running in this type of race, will add an unpredictability factor and also give good dividends.
Astounding Gallop : Ran very well in Hyderabad beating star warrior, says a lot about its improvement, if it stays the distance will be a major threat.Don't underestimate its chances today.
Fist Of Rage : Will Stay, but not in the same class of horses, to win such a race.
Braavo : The horse is speedy, will stay the distance, winning will be tough but can place due to Sylvester's superior riding skills.
Unleashed : A far improved horse, will run well, can surprise if ridden in check.

Sky Glider is tracking well with R.Hughes to guide will be right there. Gold tern has got a nice handicap today, will place. Star Of Desire can up considered for an upset.
Race 5. Redshift(Win), Saddle Queen, Cash Is King Upset : Brunetta.
A dicey race, should look for value bets as an upset is likely. The main contenders for this race are Saddle Queen, Redshift, Cash Is King and Brunetta.
Race 6. Aboline(E/W), Spearhead Upset : Couleur Rouge
A mile race with some pretty classy horses.
Aboline is running his pet distance, tracking extremely well, can win. Spearhead is prepared well, with C.D.Hayes to guide it will be right there.Criminal Lawyer is being ridden by R.Hughes, which gives it the best chance to win here, wont be easy though. Couleur Rouge at this handicap does spell danger to all.
Race 7. Sun Kingdom , Kilimanjaro , Braavo Upset : Astounding Gallop(E/W)
THE VIF BANGALORE DERBY (GR.1): A 15 horse race, good to see so many horses running in this type of race, will add an unpredictability factor and also give good dividends.
Astounding Gallop : Ran very well in Hyderabad beating star warrior, says a lot about its improvement, if it stays the distance will be a major threat.Don't underestimate its chances today.
Fist Of Rage : Will Stay, but not in the same class of horses, to win such a race.
Braavo : The horse is speedy, will stay the distance, winning will be tough but can place due to Sylvester's superior riding skills.
Unleashed : A far improved horse, will run well, can surprise if ridden in check.
Airplay : Last run was highly disappointing, don't think has a chance today.
Sunnys Secret : No chance here. Will Stay but not in same class, can only place.
Sun Kingdom : The favourite, the one who will stay and is a class act for sure. With R.Hughes to guide will be the one to beat.
Deep Blue Sky : Cannot win here, can only hope to place.
Rezoom : Can only wish to place, which would be tough.
Kilimanjaro : Has got tremendous turn of feet, will stay for sure. Lets hope it extends the favourite to its max.
Spark Of Atan : Will not stay the distance.
Dante Rossetti: Not here. Will be a major upset if it is in 1 or 2.
Mark Of Genius : Not here
String Along : The Jack in the pack, Jockey is a concern, otherwise would have been an E/W bet.
Spark Of Desire: Will Stay, but no chance here.
Race 8. Athabasca Star , Dance N Celebrate, Sunset Grill Upset : Segomo
The race should be between Dance N Celebrate, Sunset Grill and Athabasca Star.
Race 9. Free Styler(win), Mi Amor, Sunday Cruz Upset : Free Law.
A 3 year old maidens 51/2 furlong race. Free Law is tracking well, will run well. Sunday Cruz is tracking well, drawn badly, with Sylvester to guide can place.Ability looks prepared, can run well.Mi Amor is also prepared well. Free Styler last run was good, can win here.

A nine race card for the day, with few races to produce upsets. A few races may be set up here and there watch out for them.
Race 1.Current Ray,Win Again, Saganaki Upset : Spiffy.
A 3 year old maidens race. Current Ray had 2 runs, have come up a lot after the runs, today drawn nicely, with Suraj to ride will be right there. Spiffy is half sister to Ocean and Beyond, lot of expectations will be there, is prepared well. The Stallion Black Cash has failed till date, i doubt whether Spiffy will be any different, better to leave this horse today.Saganaki , another well bred horse, is tracking well, but is having problem in taking proper jump, will place.Win Again ran well last time in similar distance, tracking well can surprise.Royal Fortune is also tracking well, can place at long odds note.
Race 2. Absence, Sun Forever, Fire Star Upset : Hurricane Royal,
A class V race. Absence is running at a good handicap, looks prepared for a nice coup. Sunny Superbe is the best bred horse in the field, something seems to be wrong with this horse, better to leave it. Sun Forever is making its debut, tracking very well, is carrying 62.5 kg, which is not good for a filly, can place,winning would be very tough.Hurricane Royal last run was not good, can place here.Fire Star last run was fine, can win here is the jockey is able to handle.
Race 3. Everyday Sunday(Win), North Cape, Champs Elysees Upset : Allez Vite.
A 2000 m race. The race should be between Everyday Sunday, Allez Vite,Champs Elysees and North Cape. I feel North Cape wont stay the distance, if it stays then it will win. Everyday Sunday is tracking well, looks very well prepared, will be the main contender. Allez Vite, looks out handicapped, can place for sure, can upset.Champs Elysees will run well today can place.
Race 4. Fame And Glory, Spark Of Knight, Born To Perform Upset : Smart Exotic
Fame and Glory Stands tall, in this set. A bad race, a surprise can very well be there. Spark Of Knight can surprise, if the Jockey show some competency note.
Race 5. Romance In The Air(Win) , Marie Curie, Leading Lady. Upset : Sweet Timer
Romance In The Air is class above the horses running here, should win.
Leading Lady at this handicap can surely place. Marie Curie though carrying lot of wt, can still place.
Race 6. Red Renegade(E/W), Clear Mandate, Soberano Upset : The Spartan
A class I race.Red Renegade, Soberano and Clear Mandate should fight it out. Clear Mandate is at a nice handicap default place contender can win. Ashkan and Spartan can fight for minor placings.
Race 7. Supremacy, Sunstone, Anna Upset : Gazaki
A competitive race. The main contenders are Sunstone, Supremacy, Gazaki and Anna. Gazaki is carrying a lot of weight, but with Sylvester to guide can surprise. Sunstone is prepared well, with Suraj to guide will be one of the prime contender. Supremacy ran well earlier, with C.D. Hayes guiding it will be the one to beat. Anna can only place with that weight. Bugatti is the one to be considered for long odds place note.
Race 8. Natural Force(E/W), Sundance Kid, Don Diego Upset : Mitraya
Natural force can win today, in this set, is having a nice handicap, showing out in tracks, only concern is the Jockey.
Race 9. Sunstorm, Gluteus Maximus,Cherelle Upset : Mystic Dawn(E/W)
This is a very open race, where picking winner wont be easy. If the day goes awry, try your luck with Mystic Dawn.

Ladies Deby---MUMBAI Sunday, January 23 , 2011
The Indian Oaks also called affectionately as "Ladies Derby" is one of biggest event in racing calender. A long card of eleven races scheduled for the day. There are a few very competitive races. Here are my pointers for the day:-
Race 1. Hi Dolly, Magical Mantra, Brilliant Moon Upset : Fluent Victory (E/W)
A class V mile race to start the day. The main competitors are Hi Dolly, Fluent Victory, and Magical Mantra . Hi Dolly ran well in upper class, has very weak set of horses here to beat, if tried will win. Fluent Victory last run was was amazing, has a problem coming out from gates, is always slow starter, the distance will suit it fine. The Jockey is making a comeback, will try to prove himself, that will augur well for the horse. Magical Mantra ran well last time, with Srinath to ride will give fight to all. Tomorrows Dreams can only hope to place because of its handicap. Brilliant Moon last run was not impressive, i don't see it winning here, can only place at most.
Race 2. Ocean Sensation, Insite Soul, Houdini Upset : Rising Asset
Another class V sprint race. An upset is expected here. The race should be between Houdini, Insite Soul and Ocean Sensation. Ocean sensation, had an easy run last time, is prepared well today, with R.Hughes to guide, will be the one to beat. Insite Soul is a gamble horse, looks set for a coup today, but has to beat former, will surely place. Houdini, at this handicap is a danger to all, can cast its magic will place. Rising Asset at this handicap, with this apprentice Jockey, can surely look to place at longer odds as the horse can drag him to the post.
Race 3. Illustrious(Win), Elizabeth Upset : Superior Quest
A very competitive race on the cards. Sea Treasure ran excellent last time out, prepared well, with R.Hughes to guide will try to win, but the weight will be a stopper.Elizabeth is running its pet distance has to beat Illustrious. Illustrious is a very speedy animal, will go start to finish, with C.Rajendra to ride should win with plenty to spare. Superior Quest is the only horse which can upset, is having a major positive change in Jockey.
Race 4. Floods Of Fortune , Confiserie Upset : Great White
A mile race with only 6 horses. The race is between Floods Of Fortune , Confiserie and Great White.
Confiserie would have won at equal weights, still will give a fight to all. Great white at this weight can upset, note.
Race 5. Star Alliance, Native Knight Upset : Mystic Quest
A class I mile race. A race with quite a few quality horses. Native Knight is a very talented animal, carrying 61 kg but will surely make everyone run. Misschevious Trot at this handicap is a danger to all at its current form. Star Alliance has been a late mature kind of a horse, now it close to its peak, will be the one to beat. Mystic Quest at this handicap can upset .
Race 6. Distinguished, Mystic Temple, Dancing Money. Upset : The Right Man.
A upset race. Dancing Money is a gamble horse, looks to be tried today will place, can win. Distinguished is a better horse than this class, can pull off a gamble, note. Mystic Temple lost last time, was unlucky, will fight to win again today.Star Miracle running after long time, is being touted as a definite winner, tracking extremely well, will R.Hughes to ride can win, but better to leave this horse today. The Right Man can sneek a place.
Race 7. Silver Soul(E/W), Sepia Tone, Alburz Upset : Creme De La Creme
A competitive race. Albuurz failed twice, was unlucky with draw, today has got a lovely draw, will be right there.Sepia Tone is a class above horse, running its pet distance, will try to run away.Silver Soul is also a class above horse, drawn nicely today, will run a good race, provided its blood vessel holds. Royal Gesture can hope to place as well. Creme De La Creme is another class above horse, with the handicap can upset all.
Race 8. Amadeus(win), Amaretto, Haunting Fantasy Upset : Araceli.
THE GOOL S. POONAWALLA MILLION - the3 year old race having 9 horses. A very competitive field.
Amadeus ran well last time, tracking extremely well, would have improved a lot, with B.Prakash to guide will be tough to toss.Amaretto ran well last time time, has come up after that run, will run well. Araceli won in Bangalore, is bred for speed running a sprint here, can surprise, but the Jockey is a concern. Class Apart looks a speedy horse , tracking well, with C.D. Hayes to guide will push all for sure. Haunting Fantasy lost earlier to Amaretto, but has improved a lot since then, won well last time, will be a different proposition today.
Race 9. Suryaveer(E/W), Sledgehammer, Hill Ranger Upset : Ashwa Prabir
A 3 year maidens race. The race looks likely to be between Ashwa Prabir, Hill Ranger,Sledgehammer, and Suryaveer.
Race 10. Siachen, Moonlight Romance Upset : Carousel
THE HDIL INDIAN OAKS- The main race of the day.
Six horses fight for the prize. It surprises me sometimes, that how many owners are frightened to race their horse in these big races, once they see some very good horse in the field.
Carousel : It is bred to stay, will relish the mile and 1/2 distance.Sparsely raced.Has got good Jockey, who will keep her in the race till the last furlong for sure. Will show its class today.
Frost Fairy : The participant from the gold and brown brigade, has tasted the distance earlier and came out well, does not look to be an outstanding animal, but will stay and can surprise, only if others fail which is unlikely.
Moonlight Romance : A one paced horse, will try to win from the world go, but since it is a 6 horse field, where navigation wont be much of a problem, will be tested to its limits. R.Hughes riding it will be a big positive.
Siachen : The prime contender. Will it stay the distance is the eternal question? It has got tremendous turn of feet, will win surely if it stays. I feel it will stay the trip.
Sun Elegance : The pace maker of the race, will help Siachen's cause more ironically.
Sunlight : The horse which will surely stay, and would be competitive as well. It is a good finisher. Watchout for it if the race pace is hot.
Race 11. Glorious Miss, Fascination, Perpetuation Upset : Adams Law(note)
Adams Law can upset at longer odds note.
